Librarian
The Welby Way Library has been in its current location since October 23, 1998. That exciting day was the grand opening of our new "Wonder of Reading" library. The Wonder of Reading program helped to expand the library into two classrooms, decorate the interior and add many new books. We have added even more volumes in the past few years and presently have over 9,824 books!
Welby Way Library is the Model Library of LAUSD's District A. We have held this honor since 2001. On September 27, 2002 we received Honorable Mention Library of that year.
The library became computerized in October 2002. This allows the children to search the computer for the books they are interested in borrowing.
Children are allowed to check out a total of three books at a time and take them home for a period of two weeks. They can visit the library during classroom assigned library time, recess, lunch and after school.
THE WELBY WAY LIBRARY RULES AND POLICIES FROM THE WELBY WAY HANDBOOK
All classes visit the Welby Way library on a regular schedule. First through fifth grade students borrow books and magazines and do research for classroom projects. Kindergarteners participate in story-time programs. Library staff teach the students library and literary skills. Parent volunteers are always welcome. Please see “Volunteering at Welby Way” in this handbook.
Using our school library is a privilege. An application for a school library card will be distributed at the beginning of each school year. The application requires a parent/guardian signature. The following rules apply to all visitors to our library:
1. Be quiet.
2. No food or beverages.
3. No running, jumping, or other inappropriate behavior.
4. Please use shelf markers when looking for books. Return books to their original shelf position when done by using the shelf marker.

6. Book check-out policies (distributed with the school library card application) must be followed.
7. Please treat all books carefully, as you will be financially responsible for any damage.
Violation of library rules will result in expulsion from the library.
