For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a teacher. My grade school friends and I would play school for hours and hours. Of course, I was always the teacher, assigning my friends lots of work. Things have not changed that much!
After graduating from UCLA, I began my teaching experience at Hillcrest Drive Elementary School in the Crenshaw area. I then moved on to 42nd St. Elementary School. I continued teaching there until 1978. I received my Master’s Degree in 1985 and that year I started working at Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School in Northridge. I remained there until 1989, when I came to Welby Way Elementary.
I cannot believe that I have been working here since 1989. I have taught in the Kindergarten, sixth grade (when sixth grade was still at Welby Way), and fourth grade. I taught fifth grade from 1992 to 2007. Each year I look forward to working with our students and families. It is always exciting and very stimulating. When my former students return to tell me where they will be attending college, I feel especially proud that I have been able to play a small role in their success.
My time at Welby Way has gone by so quickly and I have had a wonderful time with so many bright students. My friends are amazed when I tell them that I love coming to school everyday. There are always new and innovative programs that challenge the students and teachers at Welby. I feel that by working here, I am able to use the latest ground-breaking methods which provide the students with the best education available. It is very exciting be the Magnet Coordinator at a school I love! I am looking forward to continuing to meet new challenges, learn new things, and getting to know more of our Welby Way families. Please come by and say Hello when you get the chance.
